Dr. Joann Latorre has served the Doña Ana Community College Community since fall 2016 as an Associate Professor of Chemistry in the Science Department, Division of Science,
Engineering, and Mathematics. In addition to professional experience as a lab researcher, Dr. Latorre spent 18 years as a public high school AP Chemistry teacher in the state of New York.
She holds two master’s degrees: one in Medicinal Chemistry from St. John’s University in Queens, NY and a second from Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY in Secondary Education. In 2019, she earned her Interdisciplinary PhD in Chemistry and Curriculum and Instruction from NMSU.
Dr. Latorre initiated community outreach STEM programs in Doña Ana County, and cities across the state of New Mexico. where inspires students to learn and grow utilizing their full potential. Dr. Latorre is an Institutional Coordinator for the NSF NM Alliance for Minority Participation. She received the NM AMP Mentor of the Year Award 2023-2024, and she is the recipient of the NMSU DACC Donald C. Roush Award for Teaching Excellence, 2021-2022. Dr. Latorre inspires girls in becoming science-minded, utilizing their full potential in STEM pathways.
