"This talk will cover some of the aspects and considerations that were involved with my career switch from music to a management position within the Computing, Communications, and Information Division at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Having obtained the degree Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) from the University of Texas in Austin in 1978, I proceeded with a career as music performer and teacher. Upon relocating to Los Alamos in 1990, I started working on a degree in Computer Science at the University of New Mexico Los Alamos branch as a Women in Science intern. After a dynamic eight years, I am now working as the Deputy Group leader in CIC-7, Computing, and am heavily involved in not only group management, but also in intra- divisional management of such projects as Year 2000 compliance of the Integrated Computing Network and the installation and integration of the ASCI Blue Mountain computing system. The Blue Mountain system is part of the Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative (ASCI), and when fully installed in November, will have a peak computing performance level of 3 Teraflops, or 3 trillion floating point mathematical calculations per second. This talk will give an overview of my involvement in this project."
