NMNWSE is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity. Our public charity status is 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). Donations are deductable to the extent provided by law.

Our legal name is "New Mexico Network for Women in Science and Engineering, Inc". We are also known as "NMNWSE", and we were formerly known as the "Network for Women in Science and Engineering, Inc". The change from our former to current legal name is reflected in our determination letter from the IRS dated Jan 6, 2010, but it may take a few months for that formal change to be reflected in the IRS master file and other non-profit databases.

Our tax year is Oct 1 - Sep 30. Members needing nontaxable transaction certificates or other nontaxable ID numbers for allowable purchases should contact the NMNWSE treasurer.

  • click on "Tax Stats" (under "Information about" at the bottom right of this page)
  • This takes you to a "Tax Statistics" page - now click on "Exempt Org. Master File" (under Charitable & Exempt Org. Statistics at top right)
  • This takes you to the page titled "SOI Tax Stats - Exempt Organizations: IRS Master File Data".
    Scroll down this page to the box for New Mexico and click on the A-Z Excel Table (the person at the IRS recommend not trying to use the unformatted version - she said the formatted was much easier).
  • Find us in the Excel file just downloaded under 850283394 or NETWORK FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING INC
    Look at our entry in column N which has the "Foundation Code". It should be "15"
  The instruction manual for the IRS Master File data (linked from the Master File Data page) indicates this code means we are a public charity which receives a substantial part of its support from a governmental unit or the general public, or 170(b)(1)(A)(vi)
